Welcome to
The Old Post Office Barbon

Welcome to the old post office Barbon

The picturesque stone fronted detached cottage was built around 1802 and was a post office serving the small Barbon community for many years until its conversion by the previous owner, who in 2017 put it up for sale.

As a family we feel very privileged to own such a special second home and whilst we want to maintain its high standard, we are happy to share it with others who appreciate the opportunity to stay in a quality property in such a beautiful location.

The amazing central village location and its secluded courtyard provides for a great atmosphere. The town of Kirkby Lonsdale a short distance away and has a range of fantastic eateries, coffee shops, boutiques and individual shops. The village of Barbon is located within the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is also within very easy reach of the Lake District National Park; therefore, it is ideally positioned for access to the vast array of walks and historic attractions which both areas have to offer.

We have renovated it throughout to a very high standard and we are proud of our two-bedroom, two-bathroom cottage and we hope you like it too.

Lets take you round

Entering through the porch, the property benefits from underfloor central heating throughout controlled by Hive.

The Lounge/Dining area…..    is warmed by underfloor heating and a log burner fire set within the stunning original fireplace. There are sash style windows and shutters throughout the property.

We provide you with a log starter pack ready to use when you arrive.

A 50-inch Samsung flat screen television and surround sound is ideal for those nights in by the fire.

Surfing the internet couldn’t be easier with the benefit of B4RN super fast broadband

The extending dining table is supported by six leather chairs to provide comfort whilst enjoying a long lazy Sunday lunch or a relaxing dinner.

A “Roberts” radio is provided for your music or podcasts.

Local attractions

The Church mouse

Go and see Jules & John at the Churchmouse  at Barbon. It is a village store, cafe and delicatessen all rolled in to one. Situated in the centre of the beautiful village of Barbon. The café is a destination for walkers, cyclists and visitors to the area, or just a two-minute walk down the road for a coffee and a chat.

There is also a lovely Bistro every Friday evening, they will accept walk -ins but it’s advisable to book early to avoid disappointment.

Fully licensed, they offer snacks, light lunches, tapas and lunchtime specials. They also sell a wide range of cheeses, meats, chilled products, groceries, newspapers, freshly baked bread and local milk.

With indoor and outdoor seating in an idyllic setting we are sure you would enjoy a visit to the Church Mouse at Barbon whatever you choose.

The Barbon Inn

A warm welcome awaits you at the Barbon Inn- a family run, traditional 17th Century coaching Inn. The Inn & Restaurant has been around since the 1650’s and started life as a farmhouse. The food is really goos and definitely worth a try !

Barbon Village Hall

The village hall is situated a short walk away opposite the Church Mouse. There are regular events going on so please check out the noticeboard or indeed their Facebook page.

The village Hall also has outside tennis courts available for a small fee.

St Bartholomew's Church, Barbon

St Bartholomew's Church is just a short walk from the post office. It is an active Anglican parish church.

The present church stands slightly to the south of a formerchapel of easethat was in existence by 1610. This was rebuilt in 1815, but all that remains of it is a porch to the north of the present church, which is used as a shed!

St Bartholomew's was built in 1892–93.

Restaurants

We regularly eat at the Barbon Inn because it is only a few yards from the cottage and the food is very good. There are also a  couple of really nice restaurants not too far away by car, our favourite is the  Lunesdale Arms . The highwayman and  The Sun Inn are a close joint second place !!

Walks

There are a number of local walks around Barbon and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. We also have easy access to more challenging walks in the hills and mountains of the Lake District National Park. Leaflets are provided so why not take the challenge?

If you can recommend any good walks then please free to email me the link and information so I can share it with other guests.

Cycling

Cycling is very popular, and you will often see cyclists travelling through the village.
